Description

Combining innovation and artistry, it sports a long, pleated resin body and refrains from using any fussy details for a truly modern, minimalistic sign off. So it's a kettle and it does what I need it to do - but out in the kitchen it doesn't look as good as I hoped. Alessi’s mission is now one of translating its quest for the most advanced cultural, aesthetic, design and functional quality into mass production.

He designed lamps and furniture for the most well known Italian and European companies and realized architectural project in Italy and abroad. Apparently, there is a famous puzzle in mathematics and physics courses that asks, "Why does a mirror reverse left and right, but not up and down? Like a fabric that a thick pleating transforms into a three-dimensional shape, this kettle is reminiscent of an haute couture dress, a beautiful object to be left on display on your kitchen top. He realized architectural projects in Italy and abroad, spanning from industrial to cultural landmarks.Over a century it has gradually evolved into a leading exponent of the 'Italian design factories', capable of applying the excellence achieved in design management to very different types of products. SUSTAINABILITY AND SAFETY: A device cuts off the power supply if the kettle is turned on with an insufficient quantity or in the absence of water, avoiding possible damage. With intricate detailing and simple design, the Plisse kettle by Alessi is a truly stylish, high-end product. A kettle like a haute couture dress: a beautiful object to leave on display that borrows the visual codes of the world of high fashion, a true style icon that brings a touch of unexpected sophistication to any room. Inside the pouring spout there is a filter that retains any limescale particles formed inside the kettle.

As an added bonus, this kettle boils quickly and makes very little noise when doing so, it sounds much quieter than previously owned kettles. A filter hidden inside the spout prevents limescale particles from finding their way into your drink. Practice opening the lid before using (you push the knob on top backwards with your thumb and it opens really easily but because it’s not something you are used to doing it does take a minute to get in the habit) show anyone who boils the kettle in your house how to do it! Having a good kettle is an essential, for us and our kitchen, and Alessi’s electric plisse offering will slip right into routine and décor alike. Alessi's success lies in its ability to collaborate with some of the most talented designers from around the world. For instance, their "Juicy Salif" citrus squeezer, designed by Philippe Starck, resembles a spaceship rather than a traditional kitchen tool. The matt finish is fine and the design is good but it looks so plasticky (apologies - appreciate this isn't a word but the best way I can describe).

Unmistakable: The Plissé kettle becomes a true style icon, giving every room a touch of unexpected refinement. Two Alessi designs are represented in MoMA's collection: David Chipperfield's Piana Chair from 2010, and Philippe Starck's Ceci N'est Pas une Truelle Cake Server from 1996. A safety device cuts off the power supply if there’s too little or no water in the kettle, allowing you to avoid possible damage. Its heating system quickly brings the water to a boil and, by lifting easily from the base, allows water to be poured easily. Truly masterful design must move people, convey emotions, bring back memories, surprise, and go against the common way of thinking.Recognised by its artistic structural folds, the Plisse electrical kettle is made to compliment any contemporary kitchen. DESIGN NOTES: Elegant: A kettle like a haute couture dress, a splendid object to be left in sight that borrows the visual codes of haute couture.

Elegant down to the smallest details, Plissé is available in black or white and its power supply base has been hidden inside of the kettle. They mention that the lid broke in the first week of use, the lids does feel a little flimsy, and over time, this could see this breaking easily. In almost a century of history, the company has gradually evolved to become one of the leading “Factories of Italian design”, capable of applying its expertise and excellence in design management to many different product types.

Nothing cheap here, that’s for sure, but this is perfect for special treats, and there’s IKEA for the rest! Designed by Michele De Lucchi, the Plissé kettle combines functional aspects with a plastic and fascinating design that reveals the creator's architectural background, as well as his passion for the handicraft and for sculpture.
