The angled, front-firing speakers kick out a surprisingly big sound, with respectable, punchy low end and an appreciable stereo width from the playing position. When we reviewed the previous MPC Live, we said the software – in standalone mode, at least – felt occasionally convoluted and disjointed, and we stand by that criticism now; there are a lot of different views and menus to navigate, and while much of the workflow is intuitive, some features end up buried amongst sub-menus. Shift-Rec then punches them in at the current timeline cursor position (though they'll probably be out of time!

Now the MPC replaces all this and with the built-in battery, it only takes a minute to plug the audio cable and controller keyboard and voila! Powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and packing 16 gigs of on-board storage, the MPC Live features numerous ways to take your beloved sample library and MPC sessions anywhere. I acquired the MPC Live II over a year and a half ago to be my all-in-one music box for studio, rehearsal and live use (In an alternative rock setting). If there is any other complete noob reading this and wondering should you get the book, get it, worth every cent.Probably the best sampler on the market, with ease of sample editing, auto chop and a wonderful auto-sampler which allows use to easily capture any synth or sound modules as a multisample key group.

including the AIR Vocal Insert Effects Suite, delivering the power to record and mix the perfect vocals. You can’t easily mix and match to discover what combinations of drum energy works the best for a particular section of a song.MPC's project structure has more in common with a drum machine or Elektron device, where each Sequence is an independent entity. The diagrams are excellent and the way it takes the reader through each task then builds on it as the book goes on makes learning effortless and fun. Designed from the ground up, this dual tweeterwoofer system delivers impeccable clarity to keep your ideas flowing through the creative process. Yeah, this is the sound advice and I actually have a trial license for Suite and the clock is ticking.

The portability of the Live has been taken to another level as it weighs less than the original and boasts a built-in stereo monitoring system. Simplify your sample browsing and auditioning with on-board Splice and Ableton Live integration in MPC Live II.

Large and heavy - I have no problem sitting with the MPC Live 2 in my lap, but with the Push 3, I wonder if it’s going to feel a tad too heavy and/or warm? Akai Professional has just announced the add-on of DrumSynth to their MPC and FORCE lines of music production tools with MPC 2. It’s like going from windows 95 to windows 10 - bit challenging finding what you’re looking for at first (being used to old ways) but it can do it all and more (way more).
