And amidst all the unrefined concupiscence and gleefully abandoned foundation garments there is tenderness too and the eternal struggle of a young woman seeking reassurance and validation about her looks and experiences. Unfortunately, that involves looking for love in all the wrong places and sometimes in the wrong people.

Cheered on by best friends Ashley and Raj, Zara embarks on a string of dating escapades that are as hilarious as they are disastrous. The story is a basic, easy to read tale that will pass the time, but I cannot forgive the poor grammar - use of apostrophes for plurals, incorrect use of your/you're and there/their/they're. Sophie said: “This is something completely new and I’m super excited to be welcoming a wide range of guests to talk about sex, dating and life in Glasgow! With her warm and engaging personality, Sophie is your cupid of comedy, drawing out the best stories and insights from her guests which include comedian James Gardner and dominatrix Megara Fury. She has almost completed her degree, living out a rented apartment owned by her Mother and vastly approaching thirty. Ultimately, though, the girl comes good with the perfect ending for her story—all she needed to be happy was her own confidence, and a man can't ever give you that! It was heartwarming to know I’m not the only female who checks ‘read’ receipts and ‘last active’ on WhatsApp and social media platforms.

I’m not sure I would categorise A Glasgow Kiss as a romance, purely due to the severe lack of “romantic men” that poor Zara (and possibly Sophie) dated however there’s an underlying strong tale of friendship and inoffensive sex scenes a plenty, although not in a Jilly Cooper or 50 shades manner but more of a “oh my god do men actually do that to bodysuits? One of them was sitting in our dialysis unit reading it and asked me to come over and sign it for her. Was buzzing to read this given I could identify with the location and I wanted to support local talent. We've all had endless supplies of dating experiences, from the weird to downright quirky and OMG epic scenarios, but like Zara, nothing beats catching up with the besties and offloading the hot gossip. Poor Zara really had some terrible dates and strange experiences - it was relatable to the 30 something year old woman and this is definitely what would put me off having to date again!

It was heartwarming to know I'm not the only female who checks 'read' receipts and 'last active' on WhatsApp and social media platforms. I found the main character a little too shallow and the language of the book was definitely cruder than I had expected.

I don’t feel that being set in Glasgow added much to the story, there could have been so much more made of it. It’s a hilarious page-turner and Sophie’s very much Scotland’s own Jackie Collins: talented, funny and gorgeous, I’m full of admiration for her, not just for this book but for achieving this success while being on the NHS front-line in the midst of the pandemic!I also loved the Glasgow setting, but I found it to be a bit cringe in places which detracted from my enjoyment! We all could be Zara, we all can feel her pain and delusion, and on the other hand we all can't help but giggle whenever she finds herself in sticky situations (or in steamy ones!
