Card, paper and pens were used to depict individual characters, each with their own unique prop and inspired by the books’ original illustrations. Never become complacent,” she also adds, “The world we think we know reflects the way we are conditioned to see it. Alice and Westwoord are the perfect collaboration and it's usable and enjoyable to read- it's such a good gift for adults and kids who love Alice! Her contribution extends to an very personal introduction in which she explains Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland‘s deep connexion to her personal manifesto for positive activism. This edition is unique in that it was created by Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll's penname) as a gift for Alice Lidell in 1864 and only adapted for publication a year later.

The best-known character from the Commedia dell’arte is also the perfect choice for Alice’s adventures and his malicious, trickster but yet always comic spirit perfectly represents the fantastic Wonderland. Westwood has long had a connection to Carroll’s work—Alice in Wonderland inspired her Fall/Winter 2012 collection and she’s referred to the story as one of her favourites from her childhood.

Westwood has a well-documented history in activism, notably her recent campaigning against climate change. Dame Vivienne Westwood has designed and introduced a special 150th anniversary edition of her favourite children's book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Ever since Alice first tumbled down a rabbit hole and entered the public consciousness via the release of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in 1865, the curious, pragmatic, sometimes snappish little girl dreamed up by Lewis Carroll (real name Charles Dodgson) has become an unusual literary emblem – and surprising visual icon. The unique front cover was inspired by the Harlequin; a print synonymous with the Westwood brand since the 1980’s and has been deconstructed to echo the hazy, kaleidoscopic fantasy world that Alice inhabits in Wonderland. Alice as we normally think of her, "a little girl with a band holding her hair back", according to Westwood.

Tiny crockery, vintage props and sweet treats filled the table, capturing the magic and mysteries of Wonderland. Westwood - whose catwalk shows have been inspired by episodes from Carroll’s fantasy novel, from the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to her twisted take on Britishness - says she often sees the world through the looking glass.

WESTWOOD’S WONDERLAND: Vivienne Westwood has teamed with Vintage Classics on a special gift edition of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” to mark the tale’s 150th anniversary.
