is the debut studio album of American music producer DJ Shadow, released on November 19, 1996 on the record label Mo' Wax. Condensed with urban oscillations and scatological beats, 1996's E ndtroducing shudders with eclectic samples and aural montages that reach beyond the constraints of hip-hop style. Unfolding like a surreal film soundtrack on which jazz, classical, and jungle fragments are artfully blended with turntable tricks and dialogue snippets, ENDTRODUCING.

stars out of 5 - "It's an elegy from a vinyl mausoleum, a sonic fiction assembled by a keen-eared archaeologist. by DJ Shadow accomplishes both of these and more, to create a work that is not just cohesive like most great albums should be (with the exception of 'great sprawl' albums e.stars out of 5 - "A decade on, DJ Shadow's affirmatory essay on record collecting as a creative endeavour has lost none of its grandeur.

In creating the album's overall atmosphere, he strived to capture the downbeat nature of his previous releases for the Mo' Wax label. The samples Shadow used are often poor quality recorded sources anyway from scratchy old 7" singles, which were then put straight to DAT after coming out of the Akai MPC60 sampler, so you can forget about the 'analogue chain' argument here - this is as good as it is gonna get. Yes, 'Transmission 2' is credited, but missing, so that's not great - and something an official release wouldn't allow. A 1991 landscape-changing release from the pioneering hip-hop group, The Low End Theory embraced a minimalist approach and set the tables for the alternate rap movement that followed. The way I describe this albums' soundscape would probably be akin to The Matrix if the sequels were actually on the same level as the original: hypnotising and fills you with a unique and unabashed feeling of ecstasy while paying many indebted homages.

The DJ built songs out of layer upon layer of sampled instruments and other sound fragments, most of which he processed, looped and re-arranged far beyond recognition. There are some interesting phasing effects that are well realized on speakers but I'd say that this album is probably just as at home on good headphones as speakers. The narration samples come from numerous sources and keep the listener involved and waiting for resolution. I'm wondering if some folks here haven't mixed the Black to Black pressing from 2011 with the 2002 reissue.I already have this dark and dreamy music on my Brennan but, to be honest, the faffing about changing connections to the amp all gets a bit much for my feeble, old mind and I don’t get to hear it much any more so I went for this inexpensive CD. was produced by Shadow in the span of two years using minimal amounts of equipment, most notably the Akai MPC60 sampler. Given the nature of how the music is made, it's not really surprising and not something I'd count as a knock against it. the original CD issue came in a rather lovely card package and the vinyl package was a thing of rare beauty (yes, I had both. was produced by Shadow in the span of two years using minimal equipment, most notably the Akai MPC60 sampler.

From those smokey Mo’ Wax days back in the mid 90s, one of the pinnacle achievments of turntable sampling and recycling. Nowhere on the sleeves nor labels do the words "Originally released in 1996" appear on this release.

Language - Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description. Despite that, this being spotlighted as the very first album to be constructed from samples, I just had to give it a little bit more attention.
