Please do not use the `Remember me` option if using a computer with public access or that is used by more than one person. A fully adjustable hood and weather resistant pockets make this ideal for any mountain activity where packability is vital. Waterproof breathable clothing has a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish applied to the face fabric during the manufacturing process. With a hydrostatic head of 28,000mm (what this mean is, you would need to stand a 28m column of water on any given part of the shell before moisture penetrates through the material), the jacket does an exceptional job of keeping you dry. The downside, inevitably, is that breathability isn’t as good as some, especially the pricier versions of Gore-Tex.

The hood felt pretty big to begin with, it had plenty of room for a helmet under there if you needed one. The arms are cut so reaching overhead isn’t an issue, and the hand pockets are cut high enough to mainly avoid a rucksack hip belt or climbing harness. That means it’s a viable option even if you’re out in dreich weather and are forced to wear a rain shell all day. At the opposite extreme, committed winter mountaineers would be better off with something more durable and protective, but they'd pay a weight (and financial) cost for it. In our many years of selling samples, we have found that 99% of them are exactly the same as the finished production version.

To boost their winter cred, and the overall feeling of durability, you get very robust Kevlar kick patches on the inside ankle. The women’s Montane Pac Plus XT is one of the lightest waterproof jackets that I have tried, and I had some doubts as to whether it could be classed as an all-season waterproof; but having had it on extended test all through the winter season, I’m happy to report that it is more than substantial and waterproof enough for the job. Mountain Run: These garments are designed for mountain running and are tailored to be closely form fitting.Perhaps in part to help compensate for not using a more breathable Gore fabric, the Pac Plus XT jacket is fitted with pit zips. Made from 100% recycled Gore-Tex Paclite Plus, it’s tough and packable, whilst being fairly breathable. In fact I think the description is slightly misleading, in the sense that these feel more like mountaineering overtrousers than something you'd wear running. If the outside of your jacket is soaked in a layer of cold water, the warm damp air within can’t escape and will condense on the inside. One point to note – you may find the wire needs to be reshaped if you pack the jacket down inside your ruck.

The Montane Pac Plus XT Waterproof Jacket is a fantastic Gore-Tex Paclite Plus jacket, ideal for mountain adventures as well as able to effortlessly handle lower-level wetness too. A full-length YKK AQUAGUARD front zip is backed by a internal storm flap and the two-way design allows you to belay and climb without compromising on protection. Since it stuffs away into its own pocket, it’s the ideal ‘just in case’ jacket for spring, summer and autumn hillwalking, but would also work well for climbing, scrambling and technical mountain trekking. There was some moisture build up but this was in the form of sweat as I was moving fast and jacket was unable to wick away all the excess moisture.

It is your responsibility to inspect the product thoroughly and make sure you are happy with it before wearing/using it. The fabric is also very waterproof (certainly when it’s brand new), and entirely windproof, which is just what you need from a mountain-ready shell. Comfort-wise, there’s lots to enjoy here, from the carefully designed front zip and stiffening and protective storm flap, through to the excellent hood that will protect you from whatever the elements throw at you. tall, not skinny, and with a pretty chunky set of pins, I tend to take a size Large top and bottoms; but in this case I was lost in L, and had to go down to Medium - not something I did with the jacket. It’s good for most conditions though not the best choice for severe winter storms compared with a heavier jacket.

Classic Mountain Fit: Designed for mountain walking, mountaineering and more general use, these garments have a versatile, relaxed fit. Coming in at under 300g the Pac Plus Jacket from Montane is a lightweight and packable waterproof Gore-Tex Paclite jacket. The Pac Plus XT Jacket uses a Gore-Tex Paclite Plus fabric with a 40-denier nylon face, which is completely recycled.

With a diamond crotch, and a decent cut at the knee, these overtrousers offer good leg movement, and I've worn them all day without feeling at all restricted. The hood is three way adjustable, the rear shock cord running around the crown of your head, making a fit as snug as you need it to be – which in windy weather is a godsend. On this scale Paclite Plus is one of the less breathable of their products, and I think it's fair to say that it does prioritise lightness, packability, and relative toughness over ultimate breathability. Paclite Plus is a two-layer fabric with a new abrasion-resistant treatment on the inside that makes a separate lining unnecessary and which feels quite pleasant against the skin. Once we have received your item(s), we will inspect them and usually process a refund within 2 working days.
